For a very dry, desert climate it may be a good idea to use some type of wood cleaner to help treat the statues.
We personally use Old English Wood Cleaner for light or dark woods depending on the color of the statue. Old English for Light Woods can be used on any wood statue and is more universal. If you want the color of the statue a shade darker I would recommend Old English for Dark Woods.
We have had customers tell us that teak oil does a good job at protecting the statue as well as giving it a nice sheen.
You can also just leave it as it is. Over time the statue will take on an antique appearance that some people prefer.
