How you clean your wood statues depends on how you want them to look.
If you want your wood statue to age gracefully and take on a more antique appearance you do not need to do much of anything besides occasionally dusting of the sculpture. Over the years the wood will take on a more warm, antique feel as it soaks in it surroundings.
If you want your wood statue to look new and vibrant you can clean them as you would with any piece of wood furniture. We personally use Old English wood cleaner for light or dark woods depending on the color of your statue. Old English for Light Woods can be used on any wood statue and is more universal. If you want the color of the statue a shade darker I would recommend Old English for Dark Woods.
We also use Mineral Oil for to clean our wood statues. We often use this for our larger wood statues as it is less expensive.
We have had customers tell us that teak oil does a good job at protecting the statue as well as giving it a nice sheen.
When cleaning a wood statue, I always recommend to start at the back of the statue. Clean a small spot on the back and then let it sit for a couple of days. If this is how you want the whole statue to look then continue cleaning. If you clean the whole front and face and decide that it is not the effect you were looking for then it is hard to reverse the effects immediately. Over time the statue will return to its previous state.
The next natural question is how often should I clean the wood statue?
My answer to this is always clean it as much as you like. If you look at the statue and to your personal preference you want it to look shiny then clean it!
Remember it is not absolutely necessary to clean the statue. It will exist just fine without lifting a finger!
